SCRUB-BUILDS VOLUME 4: RICKY FORBES

Why you built it:
I built this truck to handle anything the storm throws at us. When you’re chasing tornadoes across the Plains, reliability and capability aren’t optional, they’re survival. When all hell breaks loose and a tornado is bearing down, this truck has to perform under every condition imaginable. Every part of the build was chosen to withstand the worst - mud, hail, wind, and endless miles on the move. But beyond function, I wanted a truck that looked as tough as the job demands, a rig that turns heads and holds its own against the power of the storms we chase.

What it means to you:
I’ve dedicated my life to chasing some of the wildest storms on the planet, and this truck has become more than just a tool—it’s the fourth member of our team. It represents years of hard work, countless miles, and endless hours spent in pursuit of nature’s most extreme moments. It’s my mobile command center, my shelter in the chaos, and often my bed when the chase doesn’t stop. Every dent, upgrade, and mile tells a story from the road, and I wouldn’t trade a single one for anything.

A memorable place your vehicle has taken you:
It’s hard to pick just one, but the EF4 tornado near Didsbury, Alberta, on July 1, 2023, stands out above the rest. It was one of the largest and most violent tornadoes Canada has seen in years - over a kilometer wide, more than 2,000 feet tall, and packing winds well over 300 km/h. The sheer power of it was unreal; it tossed a full-size combine like a toy. We chase storms all across Canada and the U.S., but to witness a monster like that right here in our own backyard was something special. Brutus took the beating and never flinched, carrying us through one of the most unforgettable days of my chasing career.

Products/Parts used:
Every piece of this build was chosen with purpose and tested in the field. The DECKED drawer system, cargo glide, and storage boxes keep our gear secure and organized no matter how rough the chase gets. Front Runner Outfitters racks on the bed and roof give us the versatility to mount and haul everything we need, while the Dometic cooler keeps us fueled through long days on the road. General Tire Grabber ATX 37x12.5R20s give Brutus the grip and confidence to handle any terrain.
The entire truck is fully protected by LINE-X coating, built to withstand hail, debris, and anything the storm throws at us.
When visibility matters most, Scrubblade wipers cut through rain, mud, and debris to keep the view clear—no matter how wild the storm gets. The weBoost Drive Reach Overland keeps us connected in the most remote places, while Rough Country suspension, steering stabilizer, and winch make sure we can get in, and out, of anything. And when night falls, Morimoto lighting turns darkness into daylight.

Why you chose Scrubblade to be part of your build you are so passionate about:
When you’re in the middle of a storm with rain and debris blasting your windshield, visibility can mean the difference between getting the shot and getting caught. I chose Scrubblade because their wipers don’t just clear, they cut through anything. They’ve proven themselves in the worst conditions imaginable. For me, it’s about gear I can trust, and Scrubblade has become part of that trusted lineup that keeps me safe and ready in every chase.
